The Swiss Cooperation Office Afghanistan (SCO-A) was established in 2002 under the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), which is part of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Before the establishment of the office, the Swiss Programme for Afghanistan was steered from SDC’s Islamabad office. Currently, SCO-A has around 30 employees, 6 of them working at the programme level.
The main task of the Swiss Cooperation Office Afghanistan (SCO-A) is to plan, monitor and evaluate its development and humanitarian aid programmes in Afghanistan. As a whole, the SCO-A administers about 30 projects with an annual budget of about 21 million Swiss francs (US$ 23.3 million). The Swiss Programme in Afghanistan is in line with the Afghanistan National Development Strategy (ANDS).
As Switzerland does not have an Embassy in Afghanistan, the SCO-A also acts as a liaison office for the Swiss Embassy in Islamabad, which is accredited in Afghanistan. |
