Promoting Change Processes

Promoting_change.jpgMending the social fabric of Bosnia and Herzegovina which was devastated by war and at the same time coping with the ambiguous effects of transition are a tremendous challenge for people in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Rebuilding a functioning society – which is essential for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s future – means reestablishing cooperation across ‘lines of conflict’, developing trust and tolerance, and eventually sharing values and ethics as a basis for a new common identity. All this has to happen in a situation where every aspect of life is affected by change. This not only creates opportunities, but can put people, particularly vulnerable groups, at risk.

Objectives

  • To enable people to actively shape ongoing change processes to create positive results for individuals and society as a whole;
  • To build capacity and create among awareness with local communities.

 The Promoting Change Processes Transversal Theme addresses the following dimensions:

  • Civic participation and empowerment – as a means tactively influence change processes in institutions and society. It fosters community building and helps to (re-) establish mutual values and trust.
  • Capitalizing on diversity – as a resource for re-establishing society and state under the new conditions. It comprises the promotion of cooperation among diverse groups and of building tolerance in cultural, social, economic and political matters.
  • Re-defining the role and functioning of institutions  – as a chance to establish a new understanding of the interaction between citizens and the government.

Guideline and tools for implementation comprise: integrative approaches in project implementation, common communal action, events, festivities, exchange visits for sharing mutual experiences. A particular opportunity of mutual learning is the exchange with practitioners from other transition countries in similar situations.
