With a total budget of Euro 130 million, Switzerland was the fourth largest bilateral donor in Bosnia and Herze¬govina during the period 1996-99.
The Swiss Cooperation Office is a part of the Embassy of Switzerland and plays a central role in the management of the Swiss cooperation program in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is the interface between strategic planing and practical implementation, and between partners in Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Cooperation Office is staffed with two Swiss experts (Country Director and Deputy Country Director) and 12 local programme officers and assistants, and administrative, secretariat and logistics staff. It maintains a Liaison Office in Banja Luka.
Objectives and Implementation
The Cooperation Office coordinates activities under the SDC and SECO cooperation programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the relevant authorities and other local partners, as well as implementing partners and other donors. The main roles and tasks of the Cooperation Office are:
- Controlling, monitoring and reporting, with a special emphasis on program environment, development of the program domains and the transversal themes;
- Programme development, policy dialogue, donor coordination;
- Representation and public relations;
- Support and services for projects implemented on behalf of SDC and SECO,
international experts and visiting delegations.
