Switzerland, through SECO, has supported the sustainable economic growth of Vietnam, Lao PDR, Cambodia and Myanmar by promoting the private sector, contributing to the establishment of a conducive economic framework, and fostering integration into the world economy. Through its programs, Switzerland contributes to the economic advancement of these nations and thus to the alleviation of poverty.
SECO is mainly active in Vietnam, though a number of select projects have been implemented with a regional focus. Especially projects related to trade promotion invite a regional approach, as trade inherently implies a regional dimension. These projects’ regional perspective allows Lao PDR to profit from sharing experiences with Vietnam. Overall, SECO aims to foster learning and sharing of best practices and technology among Vietnam, Lao PDR, and Cambodia.
In Lao PDR, economic growth has substantially accelerated in recent years, due to strong exports and an influx of foreign investment. The Lao Government’s efforts to integrate into the regional and international trade system are supported by SECO, through measures that increase the competitiveness of export-oriented small to medium enterprises. SDC’s work to promote an enabling economic environment, with a particular focus on the poor, complements these efforts. |
