The overall objective of the development cooperation is to alleviate poverty by helping people in partner countries help themselves. The programmes implemented in the context of the Mekong Region Programme aim at contributing to the development of an equitable and participatory society, an open and market-oriented economy, and sound natural resource management.

Governance

Governance is the exercise of economic, political and administrative authority to manage a country's affairs at all levels. Governance should involve three key stakeholders – the state, the civil society and the private sector – as equally represented and valued partners in governing the affairs of a country. World-wide development experiences have shown that governance is a cornerstone for sustainable development and poverty reduction. Read more...

Rural Livelihood and Natural Resource Management

Rural development and agriculture is pivotal for the development of many developing countries including Vietnam and Lao PDR. As the majority of the poor depends on agriculture and natural resources for their living, acceleration of environmentally sustainable natural resource-based development is therefore critical. Economic Development with special focus on Private Sector Development

The Swiss Cooperation Strategy in the Mekong region is covering Vietnam, Lao PDR, Cambodia and Myanmar. Switzerland, through SECO, has supported the sustainable economic growth of these countries by promoting the private sector, contributing to the establishment of a conducive economic framework and the integration into the world economy. Through its programmes, Switzerland is contributing to generating income and thus to have a positive impact on poverty reduction. Read more...

SOCIO-ECONOMIC ATLAS OF THE LAO PDR
laosatlas.jpgThe atlas was a product of the project entitled “Poverty Maps and Socio-economic Atlas of Lao PDR”. This project was jointly implemented by the Department of Statistics (DOS), the Lao National Mekong Committee Secretariat (LNMCS), and the Swiss National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) North-South.

The Atlas presents seventy indicators of the human condition of the people of the Lao PDR based for the most part on data collected in the National Population and Housing Census of 2005. It contains a comprehensive set of maps showing a wide range of socio-economic aspects of the Lao population at the village level, accompanied by thematic analysis. For the first time, census data have been mapped with such a high degree of spatial disaggregation. 


AGRICULTURAL ATLAS OF VIETNAM
A DEPICTION OF THE 2001 RURAL AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES CENCUS

agriatlas.jpgThe atlas was produced jointly by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Statistics of the Vietnamese General Statistics Office (GSO), and the Pro-Poor Livestock Policy Initiative (PPLPI) of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. Funding was provided by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the PPLPI.

This atlas of Vietnam for the first time combines detailed agricultural statistical data from the 2001 Rural Agriculture and Fisheries Census with small-area geographic information system (GIS) data. More>>

A DEPICTION OF THE 1999 POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS

Socio_economic_Atlas_cover.jpgThe Socioeconomic Atlas of Vietnam was produced jointly by the Department of Population and Labour Statistics of the Vietnamese General Statistics Office (GSO), the Informatics Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (ICARD) of the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), and the Swiss National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) North-South. The project was realised through the PAMS (Partnership Actions for Mitigating Syndromes) component of the NCCR North-South, with funding from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

This Atlas presents a comprehensive set of maps depicting a wide range of socioeconomic aspects of the population of Vietnam. More>>
