The Swiss Cooperation Strategy, 2009-2012 reconfirms the need to address both political and socio economic challenges to contribute further to peace and development in Nepal. In order to remain relevant and effective, Switzerland will continue to focus on the inclusion and the socio economic progress of disadvantaged groups. Furthermore, due to the changing political context and Nepal’s transition towards post conflict and democracy, the need to support state building processes at national and local levels also is clearly reflected in the new Strategy.
Therefore, Switzerland sets two inter-related intervention priorities, one on contributing to the consolidation of the peace and state building process, and the other on contributing to inclusive, connected local development.
Responding to the fragile political and socio-economic context, the Swiss programme are implemented through Conflict Sensitive Programme Management approach, and gender and disadvantaged group (DAG) equity is an integral part of planning, implementation and monitoring of all Swiss implemented and funded activities in and for Nepal. Strong donor coordination – particularly also through the BOGs group – will however continue to be of utmost importance to ensure the space for development and the implementation for the peace dividend.
