Swiss Programme in Sri Lanka

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is Switzerland’s International Cooperation Agency within the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA). SDC established its presence in Sri Lanka in 2003 with a Cooperation Office in Colombo and a Field Office in Jaffna.

The activities of SDC are based on the Swiss Cooperation Strategy for Sri Lanka, 'The Swiss Medium Term Programme II 2010-2012' which has been jointly developed by SDC (Humanitarian Aid, Regional Cooperation and Global Cooperation), the Human Security Division of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs FDFA and the Embassy of Switzerland.

SDC’s Humanitarian Aid Programme is strongly engaged in a post-conflict relief, reconstruction and rehabilitation programme in Sri Lanka, through strategic partnerships with multilateral and bilateral humanitarian and development partners. Work is done in close collaboration with relevant Government authorities (GS, DS, GA, Ministry of Education) as well as with local authorities (Pradesha Shaba) and community based organizations (RDS, village committees etc) in Sri Lanka.

Since 2011, the SDC Global Migration Programme has been supporting a National Programme on labour migration in partnership with the relevant Government authorities.

SDC’S HOME OWNER DRIVER HOUSE RECONSTRUCTION PROGRAMME IN NORTHERN SRI LANKA

SDC’s Cash for Housing Programme primarily supports conflict affected families to recover, rebuild and develop permanent shelters through progress-based cash instalments. SDC’s integrated and holistic approach foresees the coverage of further needs of the villages, such as infrastructure, livelihoods and strengthening of community based organizations.  Projects are either directly implemented by SDC or in collaboration with other Governmental or non-governmental organizations.

SDC is committed to providing support to the most vulnerable regardless of gender, religion, political or social background. Click here for more details about SDC’s Home Owner Driven House Reconstruction Programme in Northern Sri Lanka.
