TAJIKISTAN: The IV International Film Festival DIDOR started in Dushanbe
By tradition the IV International Film Festival DIDOR will take place in Dushanbe from 12th to 16th of October 2010. The Festival is co-sponsored by the OSI Assistance Foundation and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. One of the overall goals of the Festival is to preserve cinema culture in <>Tajikistan, which matters to both Tajik cinematographers and the audience. Through cinema the initiators and organizers of the Festival strive to maintain the balance between the secular and religious culture of the region, where the population practicing Islam prevails. It is worthwhile noting that since 2004 IFF DIDOR has reserved its own niche in festival and cultural processes of Central Asia, Iran, Afghanistan and Russia, and no wonder it has been included into the Russian Catalogue of film festivals taking place in CIS. <>
The Festival will bring together young and eminent actors of the cinematographic scene (film critics, directors, young professionals, students, experts, actors) from Switzerland, France, Russia, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Lithuania, Islamic Republic of Iran, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. The participating countries will present full-length and short-length films, including motion, documentary, animation and the like pictures. The International Jury chaired by the Iranian cinematographer Kamran Sherdil will consist of prominent cinema experts from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Netherlands, Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
Films will be demonstrated in Dom Kino of the Union of Cinematographers of Tajikistan, which is now located in the eastern part of Dushanbe within the building of the former cinema-theatre “Zebunisso” (131 Aini Str).
The Festival will also accommodate a round table “Young cinema of Central Asia”, where it is expected to raise and discuss a series of issues, including those of skill formation in the field of cinematography, freedom of artistic creativity, and integration and cooperation of young cinematographers of the Region.
Also, the program of the Festival includes a retrospective screening of films directed by the renowned Tajik director Boris Kimyagarov on the occasion of his 90th anniversary, as a tribute to the founder of Tajik cinematography.
The Festival organizers truly believe that IFF DIDOR will further its success and become a more powerful focus of high cinema culture and cinematographers’ partnership, as well as become an institution for promoting new progress-oriented initiatives in the spirit of mutual understanding, supporting democracy and encouraging gifted persons.
